For many of us, a new year offers the perfect time to take a step back and evaluate our career prospects.
In some cases, this may include switching career paths entirely. Of course, this can be a pretty daunting process and everyone will have different motivations when it comes to making such a big decision.
Whether it’s wanting a new challenge, searching for job satisfaction, more money, better work-life balance, progression opportunities or job security, we all have our own priorities.
For anyone looking for a new career, the construction sector could be an appealing option, particularly if you want a profession that is largely practical and hands-on.
Why start a career in construction in 2025?
Many experts are predicting growth for the UK construction industry in 2025. In Glenigan’s recent Construction Industry Forecast 2025 - 2026, the organisation predicted an 8% increase in project starts next year, with a 10% increase expected in 2026.
This follows construction being a major focus in Labour’s plans following the party’s election win in the summer, and over the next five years, Labour has pledged to build 1.5 million new homes.
To help achieve these ambitious targets, the government also revealed its New Homes Accelerator plan, which should help to accelerate the delivery of housing developments that had previously faced delays.
There is also a rising demand for sustainable construction skill sets. Again, this has proved a key focus for the Labour government, which has promised £8.3bn worth of investment in areas like solar power, offshore wind and green hydrogen.
All of the above are encouraging signs in terms of demand and opportunities for qualified tradespeople in both the immediate and long-term future.
