The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has highlighted the importance of hiring a qualified engineer who has taken gas courses when such work needs to be carried out.
In a statement released this week, the organisation stressed that people should ask to see a worker's Gas Safe Register ID card before allowing them to make alterations to equipment in their home.
This news may remind workers in this field that gas courses are necessary if they want to provide a safe and efficient service for their customers.
"Dangerous gas work can be deadly, anyone employed to work on gas appliances in domestic premises must be Gas Safe registered and competent in that area of gas work," noted the HSE.
Gas Safe explained the risks individuals could potentially face by using an unqualified engineer include gas leaks and fires, with carbon monoxide poisoning often coming about due to poorly fitted or maintained appliances.
