Tradespersons who have taken electrician training courses could benefit from plans to transform and create a number of neighbourhoods in Scotland into low-carbon communities.

Workshops took place yesterday (March 1st) in towns across the country, aimed at drawing up blueprints for small and large-scale projects and designing new developments that would offer residents an eco-friendly way of life.

Proposals include an expansion of northern Aberdeen, which would see 7,000 new homes built in live and work quarters.

And it could well be that highly-trained industry professionals with approved electrical qualifications find themselves in demand to fit out such properties and install energy-saving devices.

Deputy first minister Nicola Sturgeon commented: "Scotland is leading the way on reducing our carbon footprint and introducing modern measures for modern times to help meet our ambitious climate change targets."

The help of Andres Duany - who co-founded Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company in 1980 - was enlisted for the workshops.
