Workers who have taken plumbing training courses could find that their services are increasingly needed over the festive period after it was revealed by AXA that pipe damage affected a large proportion of homes at the turn of the year.
According to research by the financial services company, cold weather in January this year led to approximately one in every thousand households claiming on their insurance due to burst pipes.
Each claim was worth around £15,000, the study showed, with cover for subsequent damaged personal belongings costing an additional £4,200 on average.
Nick Kidd, head of home insurance at AXA, commented: "Arriving home after a Christmas break to find your home devastated by a burst pipe can be very stressful [ ] even if you have the insurance in place to cover the cost."
Plumbers may therefore find themselves in increased demand over the festive period and could equally save some Britons the hassle of having to claim on insurance.
AXA was officially established in 1985, but has roots in other insurance companies dating back to the 18th century.
