Engineers who have taken electrical courses may have to get involved if a new bicycle created by Lexus drops in to their repair shop, since it is powered by a rechargeable battery.
The prototype design by Lexus is described as an "interesting beast" by Road.cc, which pointed out that riders can pedal the bike, as well as rely on its 26 v Lithium Ion battery and 240 W motor.
Bike repair engineers may not need to have completed their electrical courses just yet, since there are no plans to put the bicycle into commercial production.
But the news provider highlighted how the most interesting part of the machine is its gear transmission, which is described as an electric eight-speed Shimano system.
It explained: "What that means in practice is that Lexus appear to have managed to marry Shimano's Di2 levers with some manner of electric shifter for a rear hub gear."
Lexus is the sponsor of the Great British Bike Ride, which is taking place from September 1st to 4th and will see participants cycle from Lands End to Twickenham.
