Able Skills are certainly no strangers to catering for a whole variety of students from all walks of life. Just yesterday we spoke to two students who were former pilots flying around the world before ultimately selecting us as their training course provider. Today brings another student story as we caught up with Alan Sena. Alan is working towards his NVQ Level 2 with our Bricklaying Courses and is strangely enough the cousin of Ayrton Senna the former racing driver who won three Formula One world championships for McLaren in 1988, 1990, 1991 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time!
You definitely don't come across that everyday. But whats even more interesting is Alan's story and what he did before enrolling on to one of our Bricklaying Courses. Alan is a former chef which sparked his interest as his mother had a catering service back in Brazil when he was younger.
After gaining several years experience as a chef around the world in countries such as Brazil and France, Alan began working in some of the UK's finest buildings such as The Ghurkin in London being one of the most famous ones. With his food not going un-noticed, Alan was invited to work in Britain's earliest Mexican restaurant in Bristol.
After achieving everything he set out to do as a Chef, Alan decided he would love to head over to the construction industry and set himself new challenges. It was bricklaying that took his interest to the point of searching for a training centre to learn more about the trade.
Alan told us that when people ask him why bricklaying, he replies by stating he has always had an interest in construction and knew he can have the opportunity to work for himself. Not only was being his own boss appealing but Alan also knew that bricklaying can be a very financially rewarding career.
Our bricklaying courses cater for those who are new to the trade and those who are more experienced. Any candidate completing our NVQ Level 2 course will find themselves ready for building site employment, supported by a City & Guilds qualification upon completion.
