Running 26 miles is a hard task, however, it is very popular amongst staff here at Able Skills and most recently a staff member has completed the Brighton Marathon.
The Brighton Marathon is a huge event down on the South Coast of England and each year thousands of people take the plunge and run the 26 miles around the streets of Brighton.
We have lots of keen runners and cyclists here at Able Skills and gas instructor, Richard has taken to running like its second nature to him. He decided that he wanted to run the Brighton Marathon and after months of preparation and training, Sunday was the day he would run the 26 miles around Brighton.
Following in the footsteps of one of our other staff members, Roy, who completed the London Marathon a few years ago, Richard ran the Brighton Marathon.
However, Richard didn’t just run the Brighton Marathon, he conquered it. He said on Friday that he wanted to push himself and aim for a time of 3:30 hours. He beat that time and achieved a time of 3:24:31, which is fantastic considering the heat on the day. Out of 7743 men who took part in the race, Richard came in 541st place, overall there were 12,564 runners on the day.
Over the past few months, Richard has been working extremely hard in his preparation for the Brighton Marathon and he has even been training during his lunch break. All to get him ready for the big day.
Richard has been with us at Able Skills for just over two years and has been teaching Plumbing and Gas courses during his time with us. He now teaches our Gas Managed Learning Programme to qualified Plumbers that come to our centre looking to further their knowledge.
He takes them for the whole of their three weeks of training, from all the theory to the practical training. Also, as they complete all their exams and practical assessments. Once his students have finished their three weeks of training, they then go out on their portfolio placement. When their portfolios are complete they will then move on their ACS assessments.
We would like to say a massive Well Done to Richard for his fantastic achievement in completing the Brighton Marathon in such a fantastic time. Maybe London next year...
