Often we speak on the development of our students but rarely do we mention our secret weapon which helps us to do so. The Carpentry Courses offered here at Able Skills is complimented by our highly experienced and knowledgeable staff who are always on standby willing to lend a helping hand to our students.

Teaching excellence will forever compliment the extensive facilities we provide our students. Shown below are just a fraction of the instructors Able Skills has day in and day out at our Training Centre in Dartford. With 4 teachers present for our Carpentry Courses, its no wonder why students have left such great feed back on our independent review site.

Having read what our students think, lets take a look at the staff who have created such great results.

First up we have Paul who not only holds a City & Guilds qualification in advanced carpentry and joinery, but has over 20 years experience within the trade. Starting out as a young lad in the industry, Paul has mastered every stage and is even a former project manager overseeing construction work! Such success lead him to show others his passion and teach students to not only follow in his footsteps of travelling the world doing what he loves, but to provide such an experience that students aim to surpass what he has achieved! Having become A1 and V1 qualified in addition to his Certificate in Education, Paul has thoroughly enjoyed teaching carpentry courses since 2005.

Next we have Martin. It was 24 years ago that Martin decided to train as an apprentice. On his route to becoming a qualified teacher, Martin has literally built houses all over the world! Having travelled to places such as New York and Spain and everywhere else in between, he has worked with the likes of Joanna Woods and Bob Geldof on various projects. Students looking to enrol on to one of our many Carpentry Courses can also expect specialist knowledge from Martin who contributed to the  construction for high end companies such as Harrods, Durkan and Shanly Homes. Come and find out where else from the man himself as the list doesn’t end there!

Able Skills are proud to provide such class for our students. Richard, another instructor teaching the carpentry courses, boasts over 30 years within the industry including 13 years of teaching the trade. Richard is a former curriculum manager in addition to even owning his own construction company. Such diversity, looking at all aspects of what a career in carpentry can bring, Richard recalls a time that really set in stone why he loves to teach. A few years back, Richard worked for a construction company and had the privilege of teaching the new wave of apprentices. He remembers a particular student who seemed to be having a difficult time on site. After working closely with him, Richard helped develop his specialist skills who then went on to not only complete his apprenticeship, but continue and enjoy a career in carpentry. We are all students at some stage in our lives and at some point we begin to appreciate what having a teacher truly invest their time into us can mean for the future.

Lastly but certainly not least, we spoke with Kevin who explained how he got into carpentry by chance at the age of 19. After having a conversation with construction company owners, Kevin became interested in the trade seeing the potential that can come from it. How many of us can say we helped build the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver? Or Worked abroad in San Francisco? Kevin can and it was his enthusiasm for the trade which helped open doors to the opportunities that came his way. For a young man who took the chance to develop such skills, we can all agree that he made the right move. Kevin now wants to offer his skill set to the carpenters of the future as he turns to teaching which he has done for years.

With an impressive total of over 100 years combined between the 4 teachers on our carpentry courses, its no wonder why students leave the feedback they give. You can expect a teacher to student ratio like no where else in the UK and that’s why we welcome students at all levels coming from all walks of life to our centre in Dartford. Take a look at the video above for an insight of the facilities available.
