Green energy courses may be required if firms are going to react effectively to the government's CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

Harry Morrison, general manager at the Carbon Trust, explained that he expects the new coalition of Conservative and Liberal Democrat politicians to continue with the Labour initiative, particularly since the Tories have been supportive throughout.

He explained that there is no reason to think that any of the details of the scheme will be changed, but some companies may need to get themselves up to date on what it means for their sector by taking green energy courses.

These comments follow the publication of a report by the Strategic Forum for Construction and the Carbon Trust, which suggested that the construction industry's carbon emissions could be cut by 750,000 tonnes a year if certain measures are carried out.

"I think that all businesses would be prudent to be taking action and assuming that it would be implemented precisely as the order says," remarked Mr Morrison.
