Electrical courses may become more popular if one industry expert's call for more houses to be built is heeded.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, suggested less than half the number of required properties are being constructed in the UK each year.
A greater level of house-building could lead to more demand for the services of technicians who have completed electrical courses, but Mr Berry suggested significant financial incentives would be needed from the state to make this a reality.
"The previous government had targets to build quarter of a million homes every year to meet current housing demand. At the moment, we're building less than half of that," he said.
In his opinion, first-time buyers are finding it hard to secure a mortgage and this is affecting demand.
Barratt Developments chief executive Mark Clare recently described market conditions as "challenging" and claimed his organisation is currently focusing on optimising prices over volume.
