Currently studying on our City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Course is car salesman Lee Thomas. He originally inquired about the course a few months ago when he came to have a look at our facilities on a Sunday that he wasn't working. After being shown around our electrical centres where he'll be training, he told us that the only electrical experience he had was changing a light bulb! Luckily for Lee, the aim of the Level 2 Course is to develop those who hold little or no electrical experience and get them up to such a standard that enable them to begin work on site straight away. Coming with a City & Guilds accreditation, Lee hopes to leave his current role as a car salesman which we'll speak more on in this article...
So Why Are You Leaving Your Current Job Lee?
I can't stand it! I currently work 6 days a week selling cars but it's not worth the hassle for me anymore. I'm 26 and have been doing it for 5 years now and to be honest I really enjoyed it at first, but after a while it's gets very tedious having to try and sell a certain amount of cars each week. The money can be ok if you sell alot of cars but the problem with that is the fact that my salary is quite low and I only really survive if I make a sale with commission. Having done it for so long, yes it did become easier to sell cars but it's become so mind numbing I can't see myself doing forever. Every day is the same and I wanted a new challenge that will bring me keep me engaged.
So Why Electrics?
Funnily enough, someone I sold a car to was an Electrician. He said he's been doing it for 20 years and he was buying a pretty expensive car. As we got talking he said the sooner you start the better you'll be later on because of the sort of money he told me makes. He said he works on site but does alot of private work where he can work around his own time and charge whatever he wants to. From what he was saying I knew that he was making more than me and seemed to enjoy it so I thought that was a sign for me to give it a go!
How Are You Finding The Electrician Training So Far?
Well considering I hadn't done any electrical work, it's pretty impressive when realising how far I've come. I've still got a couple more weeks to go and I look forward to starting out in the real world.
The City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Course is a massively popular choice for anyone interested in getting a head start within electrics but doesn't have any previous experience. Lee is someone who wasn't sure where his career was headed but now seems to have a good idea of what his future holds. It's great to see someone simply just go for it.
