Gas Engineers around the country are currently seeing a massive increase in the demand for their skills. New Gas Engineers are needed desperately and will be welcomed by plenty of work, opportunities and an ever increasing average salary. Additionally, there are shifts in the industry that suggests even more demand is coming...
If you are thinking about a new career, it is an exciting time to join the Gas industry. The role has so much to offer whether you are looking to work for a company, become your own boss through self-employment. Or even building your own company, the opportunities in the trade are endless.
Becoming a Gas Engineer is not an easy task. It's a very technical trade and takes time to become skilled at. Here at Able Skills we make learning the trade , gaining theory knowledge and experience as straight forward as possible through hands-on, high-quality Gas training courses taught by experts.
Why is there demand?
Gas Engineers are always needed for their services, however, a few aspects are increasing the demand massively. Firstly, the easing of lockdown means commercial businesses need the services of engineers. Secondly, people are looking to upgrade their household appliances and finally projects and worksites are back in action. Coupled with a lack of engineers means there are now more vacancies in the industry than ever before!
The ongoing shortage in the world of Gas Engineers and the problem is only going to get worse as 20% of engineers currently working in the UK are due to retire by 2026, leaving a skills, knowledge and experience gap. New entrants will benefit and have a choice of jobs. Gas Engineers are making a great living at the moment with an average yearly salary of £44,266.
Vacancies in the Gas industry have been on the rise since the pandemic began. Becoming a Gas Engineer means job stability and oppertunity.
Plus year-on-year pay for Gas engineer jobs has gone up 7.8% year-on-year, compared to an annual change of -2.0% for all jobs.
The end of Gas boilers?
Well, the subject of decarbonisation has been confusing. Yet, news this weeks explains that the target of 'Stopping Gas boilers being installed in new builds beyond 2035' has now been moved by the UK Government until 2040.
This is not a great step in cutting our emissions. An estimated 85% of UK homes are heated by natural gas. However for Gas Engineers it means that you can hold of on up-skilling and learning about alternatives like a heat pump that gathers heat from a source, commonly natural heat in the air or soil, and moves it into your house, for example, and continue to do the work that you know.
Yet Rated People did some research and revealed that the demand for heat pumps has risen by 28% so far in 2021. Which means although the target to reduce traditional boilers has moved forward, there is definitely a market at the moment for eco-friendly appliances not just in the gas industry but in all trades. They estimate 57% of homeowners want to be more eco-friendly.
