Young people in Bath and Somerset are being encouraged to take part in a skills open day being held by the City & Guilds qualification body and the WorldSkills UK organisation.
The event, which is being held at the University of Bath on Thursday, 31 January, is aimed at young people between the ages of 14 to 24 and will allow them to try out professional skills that may appeal to them, including bricklaying or renewable energy installation skills.
The event is being co-organised by Bath and North East Somerset Council. Councillor Cherry Beath said that they want to inspire young people to think about their future careers and open their eyes to different sorts of workplaces.
“This is an excellent opportunity for young people to discover what interests them and to help shape their career interests beyond their education and training,” she said. “The council recognises the value that the young people of today will bring our area of tomorrow. Supporting them to prepare for adult life is essential.”
The event is open to youngsters who are still in school and those who are in college, as well as unemployed young people who are looking to learn some employable skills.
