Looking to pursue a career?
If you are looking beyond gaining some DIY skills and you want to pursue a career in carpentry on a professional level then you will want to be looking firstly at our Accredited Carpentry Course - As this option is specifically designed to ensure that candidates have the skills that are current and essential to secure work upon completion. The course is 6-weeks in total and will aim to see you progress from an absolute beginner to a competent Carpenter building your skills as the weeks progress and as you take on various aspects of the trade. We will focus on practical experience and aim for reality when it comes to hand-on work. We will provide you with training and assessment in several areas of Carpentry covering first fix aspects like cutting and laying floor joists and fixing door linings as well as second fix aspects such as hanging doors and fitting skirtings and architraves etc.
The course will cover various subjects including:
- Fixing architraves and skirting
- Constructing and fixing hatch linings
- Fitting locks and latches
- Constructing studwork with opening
- Constructing and installing door lining
- Hanging a door
- Fitting floor joists and installing floor coverings
- Installing and bracing trussed rafters
- Setting out and cutting one pair of common rafters
After this 6-week course you will be ready to begin work. Once you have gained some more experience on the job and feel confident in your availability you will want to look at taking on an NVQ or National Vocational Qualification. An NVQ is a work-based qualification that is achieved by way of being assessed on the job. We have Carpentry assessors in place that will come to your place of work on 2-separate occasions to judge your work and actions on the job against the industry standard. The reason you will want to take on this on-site assessments or OSAT is because upon successful completion you will be eligible for a CSCS card allowing you to work on construction sites , giving you access to more opportunities for work.
