Completing an ACS Re-assessment during the pandemic!
These are difficult times for all of us. With constant confusion on what you can and cant do some thing have been pushed to the side. As a Gas Engineer you cannot put your ACS Re-assessment to the side. Gas engineers are expected to take all reasonable measures to maintain their ACS qualifications, including planning ahead, as maintaining gas safety competence is essential. The Gas Safe Register is aware that this can be difficult at the moment with training providers being closed or operating at a reduced rate. Here at Able Skills we are operating as usual with social distancing measures in place. We offer ACS assessments and Re-assessments over a period of 5-days. Our aim is to provide existing Gas Engineers with an Assessment or Re-Assessment process which is straight forward and to the point.
Currently, as it stands those Engineers whose ACS qualifications expired before 1 October 2020, and who have been unable to book ACS reassessment, have been permitted to remain on the Register for up to 6-months from the expiry date on their ACS certificate while they arrange for reassessment. For those Engineers with ACS qualifications that expire on or after 1 October 2020 will need to renew their qualifications by 31 March 2021. Whatever your situation is, here at our training centre we will do our best to accommodate your assessment as soon as we can. We are very busy at the moment, however, ACS Re-assessments can be arranged, you can contact us on 01322 280 202 for more information!
What is an ACS assessment?
An ACS Assessment, also known as the Accredited Certification Scheme is ultimately a way to test your competence and safety awareness whilst carrying out Gas work. It is also essential when looking to register with the Gas Safe Register, a legal requirement for anybody involved in gas here in the UK. The scheme is overseen by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). When taking on this assessment, initially you will need to complete a core gas safety element which is compulsory and must be achieved before any further assessment can be undertaken on specific topics like Central Heating Boilers or Cookers. This initial core gas safety portion also known as CCN1 will cover the following...
- Gas safety regulations and other relevant legislation
- Combustion, relevant pressures and gas rates
- Gas pipe work
- Tightness testing and purging, including low and medium pressure
- Chimney systems recognition and testing
- Ventilation
- Gas controls
- Flue gas analysis
