The construction skills shortage is hitting more trades.
A construction skills shortage has been widely reported across the UK for several years, with Bricklayers and Carpenters being the hardest hit for skilled workers. However, in some trades it seems to be hitting hard.
Construction work has been planned and started across the UK in very high amounts to reach house building targets set by the government. This has meant more workers are needed within various trades, not just construction trades.
With big trades, such as plumbing and electrical badly needed in all types of housebuilding work it is vital they have enough skilled workers across the UK. However, shortages of Electricians are at their highest numbers in many years and this is putting back building work due to lack of workers. Plumbers are also said to be at a high shortage.
The government’s plan to create more affordable homes across the UK has meant an added demand on the construction industry to meet the requirements. However, with an ongoing construction skills shortage it has been hard for some contractors to find the skilled staff to work.
Although, it’s not all doom and gloom, this has brought up a fantastic opportunity for people looking to ditch the office job and join the construction industry. If you are looking to make a change in your career then this is a fantastic chance to get started, with job opportunities out there.
