A representative from the construction industry has stressed that many workers are likely to need new training to tackle low-carbon issues, which could lead to more interest in plumbing courses.
The greatest challenge facing the sector is ensuring that staff have the capability to overcome such green problems, according to a spokesman for the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians.
He suggested it will improve the health of the industry to provide effective training - such as plumbing courses - for workers, but many companies are too short-term in their thinking to take action.
"I think it is a massive challenge for the industry. To tackle the low-carbon agenda, workers at all levels need to be retrained and given new skills," added the spokesman.
His comments were made in response to a recommendation from the Innovation and Growth Team for the Department of Innovation, Business and Skills, stating that the construction sector needed to undertake the largest change in its operations since the Victorian era.
