Electrical courses could become more popular in the future if consumers follow the advice of one construction sector source, who is encouraging the public to opt for self-build projects.
Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding and Renovating magazine, explained that this approach could allow people to save up to 30 per cent on the cost of their house.
If more individuals decide to go for this route to building their "dream home", it could increase demand for the services of tradesmen with electrical course qualifications.
"Self-build is also increasingly popular. I've no doubt this would increase still further if more mortgage providers would offer a greater choice of mortgages for homebuilders," remarked Mr Orme.
His comments follow a statement by housing minister Grant Shapps, who called for more people to get involved in such projects and stressed they should not be the domain of the privileged.
Mr Orme applauded the government for its attitude to self-build homes.
