There may soon be more interest in electrical courses if electric bikes (e-bikes) become more popular in the UK.

Process and Control Today described how this mode of transportation is providing something of a growth area for companies creating parts for the devices.

The online news provider explained that the e-bikes involve electric drive trains that kick in when a rider reaches a certain level of torque, which could mean that conventional bicycle engineers require electrical courses to know how to repair and maintain such items.

It went to say: "The power rating and maximum speed of the bike are limited and so these bikes can normally be ridden without the need for an official licence."

While e-bikes are not particularly common in the UK yet, the Baltimore Sun recently described how 21 million of the hybrid vehicles were sold in China last year.

The publication went on to say that the phenomenon has not caught on in the US either.
