The launch of a new green power incentive in the UK could prompt more tradesmen to consider taking renewable energy courses.
Announced today (March 10th), the renewable heat incentive (RHI) will support customers who choose to install biomass, ground source and water source heat pumps, as well as solar thermal and biomethane devices.
The scheme was unveiled by the energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne and could lead to more use of green power generators, which will require the expertise of technicians who have completed renewable energy courses.
"Under the RHI, organisations using renewable heat will receive quarterly payments for 20 years from the date they enter the scheme," said the MP, adding that funds can also be applied retrospectively for machinery installed since July 15th 2009.
This week, Mr Huhne responded to the publication of the EU Commission's 2050 Low Carbon Roadmap report by suggesting the UK could raise its renewable energy targets for 2020.
