A DIY expert has claimed that people should be concentrating on home improvements rather than holidays, which implies more money could be spent on tiling courses and less on summer breaks.
Director of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) Andrew Leech suggested that alterations to a person's property should be a higher priority than heading overseas for a vacation.
In his view, DIY projects - some of which could be made easier with tiling courses - are "more essential" than holidays.
"People are looking forward to a nice summer and are not concentrating so much on what needs to be done inside the house," said Mr Leech.
His comments follow news from B&Q that the retailer's like-for-like sales dropped by 4.4 per cent in the ten weeks leading up to July 10th, with the same category of transactions falling by 3.5 per cent in the 23 weeks leading up to that date.
The NHIC spokesperson put this fall in business down to the start of the summer holiday season.
