A new programme to fit environmentally-friendly gas boilers is set to create new jobs for trades people in Hampshire.

Skilled boiler fitters will be needed to meet the expected demand from households taking advantage of the Warm Up Winchester Campaign. The Winchester Action on Climate Change group is aiming to cut the price of upgrading to an environmentally friendly boiler and encourage more people to make the switch.

The scheme means that some people will qualify to have a new boiler fitted for free, while others will be able to take advantage of a low-cost upgrade. The group has moved suppliers to Dyson Energy Services to reduce the price of the work, the Hampshire Chronicle reported.

Dyson is an approved supplier under the Government’s Green Deal programme, so staff are able to give people advice about cutting their energy bills as well as carrying out the work for them.

Skills in working with the new generation of eco equipment are becoming increasingly important for trades people as more homes are encouraged to make the move from traditional appliances to energy efficient alternatives, both to cut their own energy bills and help the Government to meet its carbon reduction targets.

Trained gas boiler fitters will be needed for the Winchester project, which is set to attract a huge amount of interest after the price of a new gas boiler was be reduced by
