Homeowners may benefit from calling out a professional engineer with electrical course qualifications when they want to make improvements to their property.
This is the view of Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, who explained that changes to heating and electrical systems often require proof when it comes to selling the house.
He said: "When the solicitor asks for details of the improvements that you have made, he may also ask for certificates to show that you have made these improvements."
In his view, it can be wise to hire a technician who has electrical course qualifications, unless people are particularly competent at complex DIY tasks.
Mr Leech explained that moving a socket from one side of the room to the other may sound simple enough, but it can be necessary to have a professional around to give the green light to such plans.
His comments were made after research by MyHammer showed 60 per cent of consumers in the UK intend on making improvements to their home in 2011.
