A warehouse project in Chorley may require the skills of people who have trained on electrical courses.

Waitrose has announced it is carrying out refurbishment works on a former BAE site in Lancashire, which it is to convert into a new storage space.

Comprising of 360,000 sq ft of storage space, there will also be a 50,000 sq ft office complex situated on the new distribution site.

A formal planning application for the job is to be submitted to Chorley council next week.

The company is planning to expand the number of stores it has in the north in the coming five years.

"We've made no secret of our plans to take the Waitrose brand to more people in more places and we're currently still under represented in the north, a key area for our growth ambitions," said David Jones, supply chain director with the firm.

The supermarket is currently expanding across the UK, with it announcing last month that it had opened its second branch on Jersey.
