Workers should always seek the help of professionals who have completed electrical courses when carrying out electrical work in the home, it has been suggested.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner - who is well-known for her agony aunt columns in national newspapers - explained she often gets annoyed with her husband when he believes he can carry out an electrical job himself.
"I say: 'No, we'll get someone in.' Give someone else a job. Get an expert; they deserve the work," she stated.
Furthermore, Clive Smith, managing director of 0800 Handyman - which offers an everyday repair and maintenance service - added hiring a tradesperson who has taken an electrical course could save "inevitable" arguments that may arise when people decide they are bored with the DIY.
"People realise it's hard work and too time-consuming [so] they get someone in to do it," he said.
