Workers who have successfully completed accredited electrical courses could find their services are increasingly in demand among renovators hoping to avoid DIY disasters.
According to Santander Insurance UK, some 39 per cent of Brits are planning on carrying out a home improvement project in the next 12 months.
However, research has found that 14 per cent will end up causing damage worth an average of £344 each, while 72 per cent will want to cut costs by carrying out the scheme themselves.
Commenting on the findings, Miguel Sard, chief executive of the firm, said: "When it comes to the electrics of the house or major construction work, it is just not worth taking the risks. Get it done professionally."
His comments could lead to a boost in demand for workers with approved electrical qualifications among those eager to avoid costly mistakes.
Churchill home insurance recently stated that one in ten 18 - 34 year olds have damaged their home or contents while doing DIY in the past.
