A new regulation - Time to Train - could lead to an increase in the number of tradespersons requesting time off to take a further electrical course.

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) announced that as of today (April 6th), employees in firms with more than 250 workers will have the right to ask for time for study or training.

Commenting on the news, skills minister Kevin Brennan said: "We need to empower people to speak about training opportunities and the benefits they can bring to a business's success."

He added that Time to Train will help workers become more confident when asking about training and skills and as a result allow them to "take control of their own careers".

In addition, Mr Brennan explained that the government needs to ensure companies are advising their employees on what training is on offer to them.

The BIS last week revealed a new "simpler" system for allocating funding to further education and training in England.
