Electricians and plumbers told to keep working during the lockdown
Electricians, Plumbers, Decorators, Gas Engineers and so on are key to how the public functions within their homes. Previously there was some confusion about whether or not these workers should be continuing to work as normal, however, towards the end of last week the government released more guidance on which workers in all types of sectors should continue to work during this time of lockdown. Within these guidelines, it states that domestic work can continue, the chancellor was quoted saying that "Work carried out in people’s homes, for example by tradespeople carrying out repairs and maintenance, can continue, provided that the tradesperson is well and has no symptoms."
Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove said, “If it is the case you are reconstructing or building a home in which there is no one present, that is appropriate and it can go on but if we’re talking about the sort of construction work that involves a builder coming into the home in order to deliver an extension or something like that, that would seem not appropriate and not in line with the clear guidance.” Obviously, as a self-employed worker, it is up to you if you want to continue to work on the tools at this moment in time, make sure to keep updated with the guidance from officials. Here is the revised guidance published by the government regarding self-employed traders and generally which workers in all sectors should be on the job and the limitations... GOV.UK GUIDANCE
