We know what goes into giving a person the skills, knowledge and ability they need to step into the industry with confidence in their ability and qualifications. We have a range of courses from introductory courses to advanced aspects of the trade. An AM2 assessment is something that you will likely achieve at the end of your training or after gaining some experience on the tools. Today we want to look at who needs to complete this test and why as well as a look at some feedback from our 3-day assessment process...
What is AM2?
The AM2 or Achievement Measurement 2 is an assessment process aimed at electrician in training who are approaching the end of their training for the JIB Apprentice Training Scheme and the Electrical Installation Modern Apprenticeship. Achieving an AM2 provides a reliable and trusted guarantee of safe, high quality workmanship for the electrotechnical industry and is highly valued by employers, who regard it as evidence of competence for an electrician. Our process is 3-days in total and will look to test you ability on being able to install, terminate, connect, inspect, test, commission and diagnose faults in accordance with the installation specification provided by your electrical assessor.
The test is conducted through a practical element testing your ability to carry out these tasks to a good level as well as a short online component, taken over 16.5 hours (2.5 days). This is not a training course in any way and althrought will reinforce your knowledge on particular subject it is primarily a test of your ability. To complete this test you will need to understand the statutory and non-statutory regulations on the following:
- Lighting and power circuits
- A three-phase distribution board and sub circuit
- A central heating/sustainable energy system
- A safety services circuit and device
- A data cabling system
Feedback:
"I had been told about Able skills during my time at college, the centre is great. All the staff are helpful and the course overall was very good and the practice day was well needed. I feel much more confident on the topic of testing and about taking the AM2. The course was value for money and their AM2 centre is separated from the rest of the centre which is genius as it can get busy." - R Lake
"I have trained here at the centre beforehand. This courses was good, very well explained and a helpful guide to prepare for the assessment. I would say that I have progressed very well and I would definitely recommend Able skills. The course met my expectations and past them." - S Champion
"The staff at the centre were keep and very able to assist me in my course and did an overall great job. I have progressed a lot during this short course I would say I've progressed phenomenally. I heard about the centre originally from my collage assessor and decided to go with his recommendation and I'm glad I did, the course was worth the price and was exactly what it said it would be if not more." - O Hattan
"The course was very good and cleared a lot of things up for me. I feel a lot more confident about taking the exam, the AM2 test itself. I came here through a recommendation from college and didn't really consider any other place." - T Wiles
"The course was very good, I have progressed a lot. I heard about the training centre through a friend of mine. I decided to take the course here because of the distance to my house and the good reviews that they had online seemed really good." - J Leeson
"The course was very helpful, detailed explanations and confidence and my confidence has increased. I have progressed very well during my time on the course and I would recommend the centre to others I know that are aspiring electricians. The course was good value for money and they had good availability on the course." - E Greenfield
"The course was great and I really like the AM2 area within the centre is was tucked away from the rest of the training going on which was good because it can be busy and noisy so it was a nice to have a quiet area to work. The exam is next and I have a lot of confidence going into it now as the instructor was really good and conveying the information at a steady pace that was easy to follow." - T Winterson
