Workers who have taken an electrical or green energy training course could find that they have increasing job opportunities if the UK continues to move towards a low-carbon economy.
It was revealed by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) that environment secretary is set to make a speech at the launch of the Aldersgate Group's Beyond Carbon report.
This has outlined a number of ways in which resource efficiency is important to the future of Britain and how it can be achieved in the economic sectors of food, water and materials.
According to Defra, Mr Benn is expected to underline the fact that "the low-carbon and environmental goods and technologies market is worth nearly £110 billion to the UK providing nearly 900,000 jobs".
However, the global market is worth £3,000 billion and for this reason British companies need to play a bigger part in the sector.
If Mr Benn's advice is heeded, it could be that job prospects are significantly boosted for tradespersons with approved electrical qualifications needed to install such low-carbon technology.
