Here at Able Skills we offer comprehensive Gas Engineer courses. In the past we have had students attend our centre that have previously taken so-called 'fast-track courses'. They come to us because the training they received was inadequate and left them unconfident in their knowledge, practical ability and skills.
What is the problem?
Over the last couple of years there has been a lot of concern surrounding 'fast-track' training courses. Becoming a Gas Engineer is not a simple task and takes a lot of focus and teaching from experts. Especially when you factor in the importance of Gas safety, gas appliances can be dangerous in untrained hands...
Luckily, over the years standards have changed. Regulations from the IGEM or Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers has meant that most training providers now have the same guidelines to follow and adhere to, however, there are still places out there providing fast options that result in less than industry-ready students.
At our centre we have been delivering BPEC accredited gas training programmes and ACS Assessments since around 2012. These days there is more emphasis on practical learning, here at our centre we have new and old appliances to give you a range of example to work with and generally provide a close to real learning environment.
The become a Gas Safe Registered Engineer you need to complete an ACS assessment. In order to start your assessment you must go an work alongside an already registered professional. This is a great opportunity to learn on the job – particularly important for those with no previous experience.
What can we offer?
We provide Gas Engineer Packages specifically made for those with little or no experience at all. Such as our New Entrant Gas Training Package 2 that includes 7-weeks of intensive training both practical and theory based, portfolio completion and an ACS assessment!
Our Gas Engineer training courses are taught on a Monday - Friday basis and include training well above the guided learning hours outlined by the IGEM. We offer fantastic facilities and provide individual work stations. Helping our students to develop their ability and become familiar with tools, appliances and take on tasks within their own area.
You will learn to become a professional Gas Engineer from start to finish with us. Starting with the basic principles of gas heating and plumbing and pipework skills. From here as the weeks progress you will learn more topics within the trade such as heating design, gas safety and hot water systems.
Health & safety is extremely important in Gas training and that is why it is one of the first aspects we will go over during your time of this Gas course. Here are just some of the sections we will be looking at over the 7-weeks:
- Aspects of health and safety-relevant within the gas industry, including asbestos awareness
- Working safely around electrical systems
- The use of copper and low carbon steel so that your pipe skills are established at an acceptable standard.
- Heating controls, Airing cupboard and radiator installation practices
- Training in all areas of domestic gas safety
