When thinking about changing careers or learning a trade, you’ll be looking for a reputable trades training provider. It’s therefore inevitable that you’ll have questions about the training courses. How much do they cost? How long will it take? What qualification will I get at the end? We've spoken to many prospective students in our 20+ years in this industry.
Unfortunately, we do hear from students that say they signed up with a company only to find out that they don’t have availability, or it will take much longer to get the relevant qualification than they initially thought. Always ask questions before you make your booking.
Here are just a few of the questions that come up when prospective students contact us.
FAQs at Able Skills
- How much does it cost?
This will depend on the course that you’re interested in, so it’s best to check the course description. If you’re unsure, you can also call us to find out. Whichever course it is, we aim to make it financially accessible, so offer instalment payment options.
- Where is Able Skills?
Even though it’s on the website, this is one of the most common questions that we get asked over the phone. Able Skills is in Dartford, in Kent. It’s easily accessible from London and the M25. Our full address is: Unit K5, Riverside Industrial Estate, Riverside Way, Dartford, Kent, DA1 5BS
- Can I do an evening class?
Unfortunately, we don’t offer evening courses. We run training on weekdays and at weekends, plus there’s the option of doing part-time or home-study on some courses.
- Will I secure work after doing a course?
We can never guarantee people will get work. However, we hear positive things from people once they finish, and we don’t get people calling us back up and saying I’ve done a course and still can’t get work! If you’re considering construction training to start a new career, contact us to discuss what training and qualifications will be suitable for your industry and career goals.
- How long is it going to take to get qualified?
This will depend on the sector, the level of qualification, and any existing experience you may have. It’s best to contact us to discuss your desired qualifications so we can give you a realistic timescale.
- How soon can I get on a course?
This really depends on the course availability, our timetable and your schedule. We appreciate that some people don’t want to wait to get on a course. It’s best to check the availability on the website for each course or call us in case we do have any last-minute availability.
- Are there any pre-requisites for doing a course?
Unlike some further education colleges, where you may be required to do some functional skills before undertaking a course, as a private provider there are no academic entry requirements for the courses.
- Are they City & Guilds qualifications?
Yes, as a City & Guilds approved centre, we pretty much only offer City & Guilds qualifications, along with AIM, LCL, Bpec and NOCN, as they are the most recognised out in industry.
If you have any questions about training in a construction or technical trade with Able Skills, we are always happy to help. Call us on 01322 280202 or visit the centre any time we’re open to have a look around and chat to staff and students.
