Winter and frozen pipes go hand in hand but expertise from plumbing courses could ease the problem.
Having water pipes running through wall cavities may seem like a good and tidy idea but can cause no end of untold problems, warns Jeff Howell in his DIY advice column for the Telegraph.
Not only is there a worry that the pipes could freeze and burst in cold weather, there is also the potential for accidental damage when trying to drill through the wall while making some other home improvements.
While installing wall cavity insulation could solve the problem of frozen pipes, Jeff Howell fears that this could simply end up pushing the water pipes closer to the outside wall and thus make them more susceptible to freezing up in cold weather.
Wall cavity insulation also has the potential to get in the way of any plumbing work that may need doing at a later date.
Recently the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering highlighted the need for plumbing systems such as these to be well maintained.
