Gas training courses at a social distance!
We are back in action here at our centre! Gas training courses are going ahead safely with social distancing measures in place. We have worked hard over the last couple of months to ensure that we are doing our very best to present a facility that is both safe and reliable for both our students and staff whilst at the same time still providing a high quality of training, just as we have been for many years! Below you can see our Gas students starting today, getting stuck in with basic pipe-skills ready to take on the next 7-weeks of training...
Which course is right for me?
Gas training courses here at our centre are presented in packages, for both new entrants and qualified plumbers. There are 3-packages for each and include all of the relevant training that you need. Let's take a look at the New entrant package 2, for example, this course includes 7-weeks of hands-on practical experience and classroom-based theory learning as well as portfolio completion and an ACS assessment, all of which are needed in preparation for Gas Safe Registration.
The more extended New entrant package 3 will include the above with the addition of a Boiler Fault Finding / Wiring and Controls Course this is obviously optional, however, after teaching students for years we released that at the end of the process students knowledge of boiler service, repair and maintenance are quite minimal even after our comprehensive 7-weeks of training so this fills in the gaps.
What's involved in the portfolio?
In preparation for Gas Safe Registration, you will need to be able to show evidence that you can carry our fundamental tasks competently. To do this you will need to work alongside an already registered engineer.
What is an ACS assessment?
An ACS assessment will test both your theory knowledge and practical ability. Completing this assessment is essential before attempting to register. The purpose is to provide operatives with the knowledge and skills relating to safety regulations, procedures and British Standards, which must be applied when working on Gas Installations. The assessments will be taken here at our centre, the initial assessments will cover aspects of the trade such as:
- Gas Safety Regulations, British Standards and Manufacturers' Instructions
- Emergency Procedures, Labels and Warning Notices
- Unsafe Situations, and Related Documentation
- Combustion, Gas Rates, Burner/Installation Pressures
- Testing for Tightness, Purging and Relighting Appliances
- Pipework and Fittings
- Operation of Appliance Gas Safety Devices and Controls
- Ventilation
- Flueing Standards, Installation and Testing.
