Able Skills is one of the UK’s best places to kick-start your bricklaying career. If you’re looking to pick up the crucial skills and qualifications you need to get you on track, our six week City & Guilds qualification is the training course you’ll want to have under your belt. Here’s what you can expect…
The course
The Able Skill’s six week bricklaying qualification is open to everyone, whether you’re keen to pick up some high quality DIY skills, or ready to add bricklaying to your professional skill set. Every unit which makes up the course has been laid out by City & Guilds, giving you a firm foundation for your next career step, accredited by a nationally recognised body – perfect for putting on your CV and impressing potential employers.
The skills you will be taught during your time with us will provide you with everything you need to work as a successful bricklayer in the UK. Over the course of six weeks (30 days), you will learn the job from the bottom up, with a very strong focus on getting your hands dirty. We think the best way to learn is through doing, which is why this course is hands on from the very start. As you learn, you’ll be growing a portfolio which you will present at the end of your course to prove the quality of your work.
The course will teach you all of the essential aspects of bricklaying, including:
- Health & Safety and PPE
- How to set out building lines
- Brick and block work
- How to ensure walls are square and vertical
- How to build a corner, a pillar, a pier and a cavity wall
- English bond, Flemish Bond, Stretcher Bond
- How to do pointing for face work
- How to put in a damp course
- How to put in lintels and windows
You will also be assessed on each of these nine different units throughout your course.
How will you learn?
Our bricklaying courses are flexible, giving you the freedom to learn when you want, at a time that is convenient for you. The six week course does not have to be undertaken in one go. Instead trainees can create their own timetable, with each week completed separately, depending on your lifestyle.
This style of learning is great for busy pupils who are already working but want to learn a new skill on the side. We’re even able to offer discounted accommodation to trainees from further afield or overseas. At just £20 per night, you can keep living costs low while learning a new skill.
How much does it cost?
This six week course costs £2295. This fee can be broken down over your six week course and paid in small, regular installments as you learn. There is a £500 deposit fee which you will need to pay to secure your place on the course – this deposit will be repaid in full on completion of your course.
