New government plans could boost the number of people carrying out green home improvements, according to one source, which could improve take-up of bricklaying courses.
Simon McWhirter, campaign director at the Great British Refurb Campaign, suggested the Pay As You Save initiative could make it cheaper and easier for people to make their houses more energy efficient.
If demand for such alterations increases, there could be more work available for those workers who have completed bricklaying courses and Mr McWhirter suggested it is vital to educate people about the benefits.
"The devil is in the detail and we need to see what the numbers are and how the mechanisms work, but this is really important," he added.
These comments were made in response to a report commissioned by the Federation of Master Builders, which suggested that demand for housing in the UK could be satisfied by utilising empty sites of up to two hectares for new homes.
It also highlighted the job opportunities created by energy efficiency improvements.
