The government should encourage more youngsters to boost their employment prospects in the highly competitive UK jobs market by taking on green energy courses, an expert has suggested.
Zoe Robinson, ethical development manager at mattress manufacturer Warren Jones, called on the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance to increase the number of green energy courses made available to unemployed young people.
"The government has an important role to play. I would like to see more training and opportunities for those who don't go to university," she explained. "The UK can only be a world leader in the green energy revolution if we have world-leading skills."
Ms Robinson added that British industry should take a more "proactive" role in offering green energy courses, but questioned whether cuts in public spending will have a negative impact on internships and other opportunities.
Earlier this week, a report published by energy firm Centrica warned a skills gap could appear in the energy sector over the next few years.
