People who have taken professional green training such as renewable energy courses need government support to ensure there are plenty of jobs in the sector.
This is the view of shadow energy and climate change secretary Meg Hillier, who claimed there is currently too much uncertainty about the funding and legislation relating to such areas.
"[The government is] making the right noises in terms of headlines in the newspapers but the delivery is way off at the moment," said Ms Hillier.
She suggested the jobs many renewable energy course students are likely to be aiming for could go elsewhere if the state does not convince the private sector that it is serious about its plans for green employment.
According to Sustain Worldwide, another issue that needs to be resolved is the fact that many people are confused by energy efficiency and the reasons why they should make improvements to their home.
