Workers with approved electrical or plumbing qualifications could find that they are needed to implement an ambitious new scheme that will take place if the Conservative Party wins the next general election.
According to the political party, the Green Deal programme will offer households grants of up to £6,500 to make eco-friendly upgrades and will be trialled in London and 14 local authorities across the country if the party is voted into government.
Director at the National Home Improvement Council Andrew Leech commented: "Any incentive which makes [people] think about making their homes more efficient is very worthwhile."
It could be that a large proportion of those hoping to upgrade their houses will need the expertise of approved technicians who have taken electrician, gas or plumber training courses.
Chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling announced in last week's pre-Budget report details of a new boiler scrappage scheme, which will offer households with energy-inefficient boilers grants to replace them with new eco-friendly models.
