The Able Skills team are very pleased to wish you a very happy National Women in Engineering Day!
This is the second year the fledgling event has been held to help encourage women from all walks of life to pursue a rewarding career in engineering. Created to celebrate the Women’s Engineering Society’s (WES) 95th birthday in 2014, this is a rapidly growing national movement, supported by women, engineers and engineering firms right across the UK.
A core part of NWED involves opening up engineering to women who may not have considered the profession in the past. Today is all about showcasing the benefits of a career in engineering by demonstrating and celebrating some of the amazing careers women enjoy in the industry. This is also an opportunity for female engineers, who make up just 6% of the workforce in the sector, to show off what they do and gain more of a voice in their field.
From a Thunderclap campaign which helped to amplify NWED’s voice via social media at 10AM today, to an array of events taking place across the country, the second ever National Women in Engineering Day looks to be an even bigger and better event than 2014! Here are a few more upcoming events, inspiring resources and ways to get involved:
