Has lockdown got you thinking about a new career? Plumbing courses!
Plumbing courses here at Able Skills are some of the best training programs around for this particular trade. Over the last couple of months, we have tried our best to ensure that we can still provide training courses during these uncertain times, however, right now we really feel as though we can continue training safely now that we have certain measures in place. We really enjoy helping people realise a new career and gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to become a professional in a brand new industry. Unfortunately, we have had to reduce the total number of students studying at one time but the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. So, how do you get involved? Let's look at your initial options when looking to kick-start a new career...
What's the best starting point with no experience?
Well, if you have literally no experience at all with plumbing, then you might want to learn the basics and gain a good understanding of the absolute fundamentals. you can do this by taking on our Introduction to Plumbing course - This 5-day short intensive course is ideal for those of you who want some basic introductory plumbing skills with a City and Guilds certificate at the end. Additionally, this course will act as a taste of the trade and is beneficial before jumping into more full-time plumbing courses in case you change your mind or simply don't enjoy carrying out plumbing tasks.
What's the best starting point with some experience?
Okay, so you have some DIY experience or maybe you've thought about a career in the trade before and have done some research then you'll be looking to take on a more lengthy and substantial course. Your best option is our City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing Course - This is where you will really gain the hands-on skills needed to become a professional and begin working in the trade. You will start with the very basics and progress to a comprehensive understanding of domestic plumbing covering both theory and practical ability over a period of 7-weeks supported by our expert instructors who will be there to answer questions, provide one-on-one help and generally give you the understanding to feel competent in the world of plumbing.
How much do plumbers make?
This is an industry that isn't going to be affected by much, plumbing will always be there. There are so many opportunities and different roles to take on making it a very versatile trade. This means when it comes to understanding how much you can earn in this profession it really depends on the type of work you are doing, your overall experience, connections and so on. However, according to statistics, the average plumber salary is £26,000 within the UK. A plumber salary rises with experience, hours worked and with the type of plumbing work carried out, such as specialism in heat and gas, with certification as gas safe. Highly experienced plumbers of this type could earn in excess of £40,000.
Should I also consider gas training courses?
Well, this is a path that many plumbers eventually seek. However, when starting out you will want to make sure that you have a solid and competent understanding of all aspects of plumbing before taking this more advanced step. Here at Able Skills, we recognise that these two trades really do go hand-in-hand and because of that we have designed courses for this particular route. Our Qualified Plumber Gas Training Package 2, for example, includes all of the training and qualifications needed to understand the world of gas. These packages of gas training, portfolio placement and assessment are for new entrants to the gas industry that already have some experience in plumbing, have pipe-skills etc.
