When Jamie decided he wanted to change his career he done a lot of research into what career path would suit him best. When he finally chose to become an Electrician, the Able Skills Home Study option was perfect for him.

Jamie put a lot of thought into what career path would suit him best and he thought the electrical industry suited him better than any others. Able Skills was the first step in a new career for Jamie.

It was not a hard decision for Jamie to drop the standard 9-5 job for something a lot more physical and practical. Instead of the boring commute up to London every day, Jamie was looking to work more local to be able to balance his work life and family life better.

However, our straight seven week Level 2 Electrical course was not the ideal scenario for Jamie due to his ongoing work commitments. After a recommendation from a friend, Jamie came down to Able Skills to see what options were available to him. Straight away he knew the home study option was the route he would go down.

Almost a year down the line and Jamie has completed both his Level 2 and Level 3 Electrical courses, both through the home study courses. He was extremely pleased with all the tutors and the home study packs he received for both courses. He said ‘the tutors were great throughout every week of practical training and the home study packs were to perfection and really made it easy for me to learn in my own time.’

The flexibility of the course was a huge factor for Jamie, because the ability to continue to work while learning at the same time meant he was able to afford the course. The flexibility of being able to do the theory when he wanted meant he could structure it around his work and his family life. The practical weeks of the course were also very flexible as he could split up his 4 weeks of practical for each course meaning he didn’t have to take long chunks of time off work.

Jamie said ‘the home study option really suited my way of learning and it meant I could do chunk of work at a time and structure it to my own pace. This really helped me develop and learn much better than I would have if I was in a classroom.’

With Level 2 and Level 3 complete of his electrical courses, Jamie is now booked to complete his Inspection & Testing qualifications. He is now working domestically as an Electrician doing small jobs to build up his experience.
