A new policy unveiled by the government recently may see councils given more cash for building houses, which could lead to greater demand for workers who have completed plumbing courses.
However, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation Steve Turner urged housing minister Grant Shapps and his team to reveal more details about the scheme as soon as possible to enable local authorities to make preparations.
If the project goes ahead as planned, then there is likely to be more demand for engineers who have taken plumbing courses in the future, as their expertise will be needed during the construction process.
Mr Turner said: "The announcement today is welcome, but [while] we are still moving forward, it is imperative that the government provides local authorities with full and complete proposals."
The New Homes Bonus is aimed at making house-building a greater priority by giving councils more funding if they construct new homes where they are needed.
