So you are a working electrician looking to take that next step? Here at Able Skills we have been helping our students develop their careers through Electrician courses for 20-years! Today we want to explain what steps you can take as an electrician to advance your own career and earning potential!
There are many different paths an electrician can take through their career. Expanding your personal skillset and experience can help you to explore new possibilities that you might not have considered before.
There has never been a better time to up-skill! In fact, there is a huge shortage of electricians which is causing those with advanced qualifications to see huge wage increases. Whatever that means for you, like transitioning to self-employment or experiencing a whole new challenge in a different electrical role.
If you have more advanced qualifications under your belt and you’re able to do more complex electrical work... You will inevitably experience more demand for your services. Giving you greater job security and stability. If you’re not self-employed and are looking to enhance your employer connections and reputation in the industry up-skilling is a huge part of that.
If employers, companies and so on can see you investing in yourself, they’re more likely to invest in you. Again, developing your specialist knowledge, will enable you to broaden your career prospects and earnings potential.
Electricians can earn anywhere between £30,000 a year and £100,000. Even beyond if you establish your own company with employees. Having more experience, skills and knowledge will only unlock more opportunities!
What can I do to expand my skill-set?
There are plenty of options to consider. Maybe you want to start offering PAT Testing services, to do that you would take on our 2-day long PAT Testing course which will help you to learn how to test portable electrical appliances.
Or maybe you want to take on our Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations. This qualification will unlock a new career option as an Electrical installation designer and/or technician.
