How do Home-Study Level 2 Plumbing courses work?
Here at Able Skills, we host a full range of Plumbing courses. What we mean by this is that whether you are a complete beginner or a working professional, we have training options available for you to learn and develop. As a complete beginner, the idea of learning a whole trade can seem intimidating, however, with our Home-Study option you can work at your own pace and start learning in the comfort of your own home. Today, we are going to explain how our Home Study Level 2 Plumbing Course works and how to get started...
How does it work?
- Step one: The first stage of this course is theory. We will send you a 'Home-Study Pack' which will include the theory surrounding common plumbing tasks, definitions of tools, appliances and processes. The pack will essentially replace the instructor for the theory side of the qualification. You can take as much time as you need with the pack, make sure that you have absorbed everything, you can even test your new-found knowledge as we include test questions in the back as well as access to the online learning platform 'Smart-screen' as an online resource for you to refer to as you study. You should take at least 6-weeks to study what has been provided.
- Step two: Now that you have studied the theory side of the trade it's time for the practical side. Contact us to book 4-weeks of hands-on practical learning only when you feel completely confident that you have understood what's been provided to avoid falling behind. These 4-weeks should be separated and can be chosen to suit you. During this time you will learn to become a plumber from scratch taking on the fundamental tasks of a plumber and gaining some valuable experience.
- Step three: At the end of these 4-weeks it will be time to take on the relevant assessments to achieve this City & Guilds Level 2 qualification. The course is assessed by way of online, multiple-choice assessments taken here in our dedicated exam room as well as practical assessments throughout.
What's next?
Now that you have a foundation of knowledge and practical ability, there are a few other pieces of information you might want to consider learning. This includes things like Water Regulations which are needed if you want to carry out work with a local water company. Our course is taught within a classroom and will give you a solid grasp on what they mean and their application on the job. Successful candidates are encouraged to join WIAPS, which will let them carry out work without having to be approved by their local water company.
