Today we bring you a tremendous student story of how our weekend Electrical Courses helped Stuart Hayes work around his current job as a history teacher! Stuart has been teaching history for 3 years now but recently decided it isn't what he wants to do in the long run. Having turned to our City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Course, he found out we offer a weekend option meaning he can gain the exact same qualification by training just 2 days a week! We thought it would be a good idea to shed some more light on Stuarts story and give you guys a better idea of how weekend training works!
So why the change of careers?
I studied history at university and thought teaching would be a good profession to get into. I wanted to make the subject as interesting as how I found it back when I was at school but it didn't really turn out that way. There's a lot more to teaching than what people may think and I can't see myself doing it forever. To be completely honest, I wanted something more hands on as I've always been pushed into the direction of less labour intensive kind of work. As the years have gone on I've realised that I need something that's going to keep me engaged both mentally and physically. It wasn't until a family meal last year when my cousin was telling me how much work he had going on being a full time electrician. From what he was saying, I could tell straight away he was earning more than me and he seemed to enjoy it too. That was really the turning point for me and made me find out about how I can get qualified and that's what lead to the Level 2 Electrical Course at Able Skills!
First Impression of Able Skills and how has the weekend training option helped?
Amazing. I have everything I need to get my City & Guilds qualification and I was really impressed with the size of the place. My instructor is very knowledgeable and is always willing to give me a helping hand when I need it. If it wasn't for weekend training, I really wouldn't have been able to work towards changing careers! I'm glad I found a place that caters for people who work full time as I wouldn't be able to to support myself with no income coming in. I'm now coming towards the end of my Electrical Course and can't wait to hand in my notice!
