When you’re about to embark on a new career, we know how important it is to find the right training. If you’re considering electrical as your new career, the range of courses, different entry routes and qualifications could be overwhelming.

You might be wondering what qualifications do I need to become an electrician in the UK or what electrical course should I choose?

Another question you’ll be trying to answer is, how do I  find the right training provider.

How do you know they will deliver the training and qualifications that you need? How do you know that their facilities are well-equipped to deliver the training?

What do students say about electrical training at Able Skills?

Jack shares feedback from a recent electrician course

Jack recently completed electrical training via home study, completing both Level 2 and Level 3, as well as the 18th Edition.

“I recently completed the Able Skills home study course in Level 2 & 3 Electrical Installation and the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. The course provided comprehensive study materials, including online videos and a learning portal, which were incredibly helpful whenever I got stuck. The instructors were knowledgeable and supportive; I had Steve for Level 3, and he was excellent at making the material accessible, even for someone like me, whose technical knowledge was limited before starting.

The facilities at Able Skills are well-equipped, making the practical sessions enjoyable and productive. I completed the course over a year, as I was working alongside my studies, but for anyone who’s dedicated, the structure and resources allow you to finish at a much quicker pace if needed.

Able Skills also offered nearby accommodation, which was a huge benefit for reducing daily commute time during my practical weeks. Overall, I feel much more confident in my electrical knowledge and ready to broaden my experience in the field. I’d highly recommend Able Skills for anyone looking to start or advance in the electrical sector, or for anyone who needs to go back a retrain – highly recommend!”

Charles chose Able Skills to start a new career in electrical

At 62 years of age and in a rut working for corporate companies, Charles was facing a dilemma about whether to retire or retrain. He chose to retrain as an electrician because of the mix of practical and technical skills and the opportunity in the career to be out and about meeting people.

“I would highly recommend Able Skills to anyone looking to do a trade skills course. The electrician training is superbly run, the staff are highly qualified, very industry knowledgeable and helped in every way to make sure you passed that course.”

“I’m sitting at 62 saying to myself I can’t just retire, you’ve got to do something with yourself — I think this has probably been one of the best things I’ve done in a long, long time. It’s stimulated my learning, really appealed to my practical skills and also played into the fact that I love getting out there, meeting and talking to new people.”

Kirstie was keen to progress her career in electrical

Kirstie on the other hand was already working in the industry and was looking for training that would grow her knowledge and progress her career.

“The home study options made you stand out, which are perfect to fit around my work schedule, as I work weekends and can’t take weekdays off work for multiple weeks.”

I will need to get a lot more on-site experience, but my goal in the next five years is to start a company and show that females can make it in a male-dominated industry.”
