A gas fitter who was not registered with Gas Safe has been prosecuted along with his employee after he carried out illegal gas work in a home in Plymouth.
Ashley Rice, 41, who trades as Bathroom Inspirations, and his employee, Gavin Bennett, 41, carried out gas work at the home in Lipson, which included disconnecting an old back boiler and installing a new gas central heating system.
Following the work, a Gas Safe Registered engineer visited the property and said that the gas fire was in the “At Risk” category as a result of there being insufficient ventilation in the room. The lack of ventilation could have potentially led to a build-up of poisonous carbon monoxide, which could have been harmful for the homeowner.
Following an investigation carried out by HSE, it was found that neither man was registered with Gas Safe, so were working illegally.
Mr Rice pleaded guilty to three breaches of gas safety regulations and one breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and was fined
