There may soon be more young people signing up for vocational qualifications such as electrician training courses, according to one business source.
LV= spokesperson Emma Banks suggested that the significant cost of going to university is putting many people off and leading individuals to choose training that may advance their career, while still enabling them to earn money at the same time.
Electrician training courses could be included in this category of education, with Ms Banks pointing out that there tend to be apprenticeships available for people wanting to become craftsmen.
Her comments were made after the firm's apprenticeship scheme was extended, allowing workers to gain a qualification equivalent to five good GCSEs while they are working.
"Apprenticeships have lulled in the last few years and university education has become more prevalent, but I think people see the benefits of doing an apprenticeship," explained the LV= representative.
In her view, such programmes offer people great opportunities to better themselves.
