Employment opportunities could be made for tradespersons who have taken electrician or plumbing courses after details of the redevelopment of Bournville College, Longbridge, was announced.
Shepherd Construction has been awarded a £66 million contract to construct a new six-storey, school building, which should be completed within 88 weeks in time for September 2011.
Richard Fielding, director of Shepherd's Birmingham-based construction division, said: "We are delighted to have this opportunity to deliver a first class learning facility for Birmingham. Shepherd has a track record for delivering quality colleges and schools on budget and on time which is crucial for the education sector."
Using tradespeople with approved qualifications may make it easier for the company to work within strict time constraints and supply a high-quality college at the same time.
Shepherd became a private company in 1924 and today turns over £600 million annually.
